SMART PARKING – A PARTNERSHIP INTO FUTURE WITH TELSTRA
Telstra partners with Smart Parking Limited to provide smarter parking functionality. In-ground sensors detect the presence of vehicles using infrared and magnetic devices, and send wireless messages to local SmartSpots, which relay the messages to the Internet using 3G cellular connectivity. These messages are delivered to our SmartCloud servers within a few seconds of the arrival or departure of the vehicle. This information is then made available to SmartGuide signs, Smart Rep for reporting, and Smart API for dissemination to other services, these include our SmartApp (for parking availability and parking payment) and overstay information is provided to integrated enforcement services.

SCOPE & PERFORMANCE
- 1. The system is designed for robustness, and maximum up-time, from sensors through to servers
- 2. Sensors send ‘heartbeats’ every 4 hours, and health messages once per day, which are constantly monitored by the system.
- 3. Gateways are monitored and alerts are provided if contact is lost for more than 6 minutes.
- 4. Sensors are generally configured to work with a minimum of 2 gateways in case of gateway failure, and gateways have multiple point resilient connectivity.
